I used to own a Pagoda but sold it before my first child was born. In my opinion, it's the best looking SL of them all. It's just so damn pretty (and a lovely cruiser). Sadly, price increases mean that i will never be able to afford to buy a Pagoda again, but i do want to buy another SL. Whilst the R129 is probably the best bet for reliability and maintenance, i would probably have to go for a facelift R230 from 2006-08. From a design perspective it feels as close to the Pagoda as you can get, and is the work of Mr Bruno Sacco.

Excellent video on SL 129 especially when you intend to get one! - Owning a SL 65 AMG (R230/2004) that shouldn't be for every day I'm seriously considering a SL 500 R129 around 2000. Low milage cars (below 50k miles) here in Switzerland trade around 40 to 50k well above prices in other countries it seems but this is not unusual because cars are generally in very good condition and serviced. I get the impression that the R 129 is a much better car in terms of built quality than my R 230 and used car prices confirm that impression very well. I had an R129 and now have a 231. No comparison. The 231 has 100 more hp, tremendous technology, and the retractable hard top. It is light years ahead of the 129. And the new 232, with a back seat and soft top, while ever faster, is not (to me) a true SL. The R231 is clearly the best generation. Drive a 129 and a 231, and you'll agree!

I bought an R129 300SL. It was admittedly a cheap car and I liked it, but it was a disaster. I kept it for a year and it spent the majority of the time in a local mechanic's garage having one major repair after another. It was such a frustration that I sold it. I then looked at various mid priced R230''s but every one that I saw had very obvious hidden gremlins and I did not want another experience like the R129 had given me. I then found a low mileage facelift R231 SL400 for sale in my local MB dealership, and I arranged to borrow it for a day, just to see what it was like. Almost within the first mile of driving it I realised that this was the car I had been looking for all along, and so I bought it. It was of course in a different price bracket to the others I had looked at, but 2 years on now I love it, and think that it is a hugely under rated car, especially the 3 litre twin turbo V6 version which is fast enough when needed, but smooth and economic for cruising. I have since test driven a couple of R232's which frankly left me cold, as they no longer have the classic "SL" vibe. Good video ... but the R231 would be my number one!

124 is the best. After 124 it's not even a Mercedes. Peugeot or some crap of that kind.

W204 still looks modern and is more reliable then the newer generations. The w204 C63 especially, i mean just hear that absolute savage naturally aspirated V8.

I have a 05 e55 with the 5 spoke wheels , you showed . I have the cord showing on the front tires , from the inside . My mechanic said , either something is rubbing while turning , or the angle is wrong and wearing on inside from mis -alignment . Got any knowledge on this , love the look of these 5 spoke rims , but have had to replace 1 wheel from rear and 1 front wheel from cracks ,and tire replacement from pot holes and slow leaks on rims , said rims are 19 " , as it came stock with 18 " rims . Slow leaks have ruined 3 tires from run flat , and not noticing it , I fly airplanes and now do a pre drive inspection every time I get ready to drive . Any suggestions ? Brilliant silver and black , cause it has two sunroofs , incase you wanted to know , one of the nicest cars Ive ever owned , but my area where I live is pothole city .

R230 all day long. The last of the Bruno Sacco designs. The 231 looks like the front and rear had two different design teams.

All I know is the Jeep Grand Cherokee if this time benefited from their drive train.

when u r buying this cars u dont care abt fuel efficiency but gotta say e55 has same specs and everything but it ha slightly better fuel efficiency

I think this is a good comparasion for the amg models but for the regular c class i think that the w203 deserves a higher spot

They should just put a downgraded and civilized v6 from the amg one into a c63 i dont see why it would be a bad idea

This is my dream car

I have a very low mile 2008 CLS AMG with the 156 engine. I also have a low mile 2014 SL 63 AMG with the 157 engine. I love them both equally, for differences related more to the bodies, than performance. Overall though, I feel the 156 engine with its bigger displacement, and imagined pride and QC as the first fully engineered AMG, is more satisfying overall. There is still no substitute for cubic inches, and the 156 is a brute that reminds me of a refined American big block, muscle car engine.

Awesome video man! CLK 55 was my fav hands down, probably one of the rarest Mercedes in this video being the 2005 Quad Exhaust/Big Brake/other goodies Avantgarde Sport model.

The last of a dying breed. Makes me sad. The w204 C63 was a blend of aesthetic beauty exterior, with balls to the wall muscle car engine with a naturally aspirated V8. Cars like this no longer exist. 😢. What a shame…

ok I believe my car is telcite grey; but digging into it I have read flint grey and telcite grey are the same color, is this true and the colors just have a different name? are there retrofits for any of the options?
